The recently formed Mermaid Trio perform repertoire from concert hall favourites such as Schubert’s ‘Shepherd on the Rock’, Spohr’s '6 German Songs' Op103, and Mozart’s ‘Parto, ma tuo ben mio’ from La Clemenza di Tito, to rarer gems such as excerpts from ‘Frauenliebe und Leben’ and 'Auf Fluegeln des Gesanges' by Franz Lachner.
The Mermaid Trio is named after a newly discovered showpiece about seductive Mermaids by the romantic composer Peter von Lindtpainer called ‘The Shepherd and the Mermaid’.
All three musicians live and work in Scotland:
Greek-Australian Soprano, Elena Xanthoudakis has performed for prestigious operatic companies such as ENO, Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, Glyndebourne Festival, Scottish Opera, Opera North and the BBC Proms and sung with many orchestras including the Scottish Chamber Orchestra, RSNO, OAE, Accademia di Santa Cecilia, Melbourne Symphony and the London Philharmonica. A versatile artist, Elena is also at home on the recital platform (having performed in recital Tokyo, Hong Kong, St Petersburg, Montreal, Quebec-City, Wiesbaden, across Italy, Australia, Poland the UK and Ireland) and is passionate about bringing chamber works written for Piano, Voice and Clarinet to new audiences. After studying in Melbourne and Florence, Elena completed her Master of Music with Distinction at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, London, and has won over 80 first prizes in singing competitions in both Australia and Internationally including the Maria Callas International Grand Prix (Oratorio - Lied), and the Salzburg International Mozart Competition.
Elena's recording 'Jewels of the Bel Canto' (SIGNUM) was mentioned in the Telegraph's 168 Best Classical Recordings (Under - New Faces) (March 2015) and released in early 2016 her Chamber Music CD of repertoire for Piano, Voice and Clarinet - 'The Captive Nightingale', also on SIGNUM records.
Jennifer Brown was Principal Clarinettist with the Orquestra do Algarve, Portugal, and has freelanced with orchestras including the RSNO, the CBSO, and the Tenerife Symphony Orchestra.
As soloist Jennifer has performed concertos by Mozart, Krommer, Strauss and Mercadante as well as recording the Mozart Sinfonia Concertante for Winds for the Orquestra do Algarve's own label.
As a chamber musician Jennifer has performed at the Algarve International Festival and the Aldeburgh Festival, in St-Martin-In-the-Fields Church, and has broadcast on BBC Radio 3. Jennifer studied at the RNCM in Manchester and at Indiana University.
Jennifer and Claire regularly perform with Trio Ecossaise, giving recitals for music societies across Scotland, this season includes visits to Crail Festival, Stranraer Music for All and Music in Lanark.
Claire Haslin, piano, is much in demand both as an instrumental and song accompanist. She is the official accompanist for Glasgow University's music department and tutors and accompanies at the RCS Junior School and the Music School of Douglas Academy. Claire is an accompanist for the National Youth Choir of Scotland Training Choir and was repetiteur at Scottish Opera. Claire studied at the RSAMD and at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama.
